Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider Course

Course Synopsis: Joint Tactics & Medicine (JTM), a worldwide leader in combat medical training for over 15 years, is proud to announce a Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider certification course. This is a unique continuing education program created in recognition of the real need in EMS education for additional training in the handling of trauma patients. This indispensable program is designed to enhance and increase knowledge and skill in delivering critical care in the pre-hospital environment.

Course Objectives:PHTLS courses goals are to improve the quality of trauma care in your area and decrease mortality. The program is based on a pre-hospital trauma care philosophy, stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. This may require an approach to the trauma patient that varies from traditional treatment modalities.

Prerequisites: Have a baseline of knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and wounding

Required Equipment: Stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, Current Textbook Materials

Certification: PHTLS Provider Certification valid for 4 Years

Course Length: 16 Hours (Two days)

Tuition Cost: $225, plus required textbook – available for purchase on day 1 ($80)

Course Objectives:PHTLS Instructor course goals are to educate prospective instructors on how to coordinate, instruct and certify individuals in the PHTLS program. Attendees must have a firm grasp of the PHTLS program and have a desire to improve the quality of trauma care in your area and decrease mortality. The program is based on instructor level pre-hospital trauma care philosophy, stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. This may require an approach to the trauma patient that varies from traditional treatment modalities.

Prerequisites: Current PHTLS Provider.

Required Equipment: Stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, Current Textbook Materials

Certification: PHTLS Instructor Certification valid for 4 Years

Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Instructor

Course Objectives: This program is provided by JTM Instructor staff and is aligned with NAEMT-TCCC Instructor Certification Guidelines.

Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 17 Years old; be physically capable of performing the essential duties of an EMT; be proficient in reading/writing English.

Required Equipment: 1. Current NAEMT - PHTLS Instructor; 2. Current NAEMT - TCCC Provider

Certification: TCCC Instructor Certification valid for 4 Years

Course Length: 8 Hours (One day)

Emergency Medical Technician

   (Formerly EMT-Basic)

Course Synopsis: Adheres to the US Dept of Transportation EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum, the EMT training course is approximately 140 hours in length, including both classroom and hands-on training.

Course Objectives: Describe the essential elements for the safe and efficient response to the scene of a medical emergency; perform a thorough patient assessment for signs and symptoms of illness/injury; provide prompt and efficient basic emergency care to the sick and injured; safely handle/prepare the patient for transportation; describe the essential elements of safe and orderly transportation of the patient to the hospital, and the transfer of the patient care to the higher level of care.

Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 17 Years old; be physically capable of performing the essential duties of an EMT; be proficient in reading/writing English.

Required Equipment: Stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, Current Textbook Materials

Certification: At the completion of the program, individuals may be eligible to take the national certification examination, which leads to EMT-Basic certification.

Tac-Med (11-Days of instruction w/Sunday off)

We have taken the refresher ‘model’ required by the Nat’l Registry of EMT’s and gave it an infusion of teamwork, field and clinic based medicine, basic concepts of ground combat and daily medical/trauma scenarios derived from actual missions. The end result is an EMT refresher course that has been custom built for the Tactical Medic that is unmatched ANYWHERE!

Certifications Achieved: BLS/CPR-HCP, ACLS, PHTLS, PALS

COST PER STUDENT: $2,500.00
AMMUNITION PACKAGE: $450.00


Note: The Tac-Med course has the exact same medical curriculum as the SOF Medic Refresher course. The firearms and ground tactics portions is geared for students who wish to develop a higher degree of tactical experience.

SOF Medic Refresher course attendees are expected to come completely proficient in advanced weapons handing techniques, ground tactics and TCCC concepts. NON-SOCOM medics, nurses, physicians, etc. are not allowed to attend the SOF Medic Refresher course without specific approval from the JTM training director. Any current medical professional with “tactical” experience is allowed to attend the TAC-MED program.

SOF Medic Refresher (11-Days of instruction w/Sunday off)

Designed specifically for USSOCOM medics, this course has four main goals:

  1. Achieve ALL required CME’s & certifications required of Nat’l Registry of EMT’s.
  2. Team Building and Inter-Service Operability of SOF assets
  3. Strengthen and improve existing firearm skills and ground tactics
  4. Reinforcement and “hands-on” proficiency testing of all tactical & medical skills required of the worlds most elite combat medics

NREMT-P Refresher Critical Care Focus

This course is built upon the framework of the NREMT Paramedic Refresher, but is heavily customized to address the knowledge, skills and abilities required by US Special Operations military medics performing the overseas MEDEVAC mission.

Specific shortfalls identified by the USAF Pararescuemen returning from OEF theatre have been added to this course schedule. Additionally, recommendations have been obtained from USAF/ACC Headquarters in regards to overall course content. This course meets and exceeds those necessities.

Certifications Achieved:Updated BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS. Additionally, all 72 hours required by NREMT for Paramedic refresher will be accomplished

Mobile EMT-Paramedic Refresher Course (10-day)

For those units that do not have the time or ability to travel to our facility. JTM offers a dynamic and challenging Tactical Medic Refresher program derived from the huge success of our Las Vegas based courses. Depending upon the host location, JTM instructors and staff will determine the customers learning objectives and build a course to suit.
